Wonderful addition to my old Yamaha FG-180 Red Label guitar

The installation was not difficult but it did require patience and good workmanship when shaping the Zero Glide. I bought the black version and really like it's understated appearance.

    An Excellent Product!

I bought two of these, one Gibson-style and one Fender-style for two of my favorite project guitars, an Epiphone LPX and my Jazz-O-Caster parts guitar. The Gibson was a near drop-in, needing only some trimming and shaping for a perfect fit. The Fender was slightly more challenging, as the neck on the Jazz-O-Caster never saw the inside of any Fender-approved factory! It required a 1/32" shim underneath for a proper fit, and some sanding to make room for the tang. There was a marked increase in the brightness of tone for both instruments, as well as improved intonation. This is MUCH easier than installing a traditional nut, and nearly foolproof IF you follow the instructions. Thanks, Stewart-Macdonald, for stocking such a well-engineered product.

    I nutted

    Aug 28, 2022
I bought one for my generic mass produced bass don't get me wrong It's an awesome bass . I recently had It refretted with jumbo gold bell brass frets and It's regular plastic nut started to feel off. I did a little search on web and came upto this products. I combined It with my leftover gold fret wire and boom I Nutted Finally after years of trying to prevent using open strings on my bass I can enjoy that low open string notes sustaining to eternity. 100 recommended and If you ever get a custom made instrument insist on the 0 fret option. You can try different gauge strings without worrying about nut slot shapes and widths.

The Offset Tang On The Fret Is The Key

I bought the mandolin version and fitted it to my Gibson. There's a lot of extra material to remove, but the result was great. Easier tuning (the old nut had tight slots for the A strings), better intonation. Later I used one of the extra frets in the package to fix a tenor guitar. For that, I simply filed the necessary ledges in the existing nut and widened the string slots. It would be nice if Stew-Mac would also sell the offset tang frets separately, for retrofitting to an existing nut.

Excellent product // outstanding company // amazing customer service

I just purchased my 3rd zero glide nut. I have one on my acoustic guitar and this is my second on my 5 string banjo. I've had a couple of custom necks built by different luthiers and in each case I went with the zero glide nut in place of a traditional bone nut. I am a believer in all the technical advantages that the zero glide has to offer. On top of being a great product the family and staff at Gold Tone Banjos are simply amazing folks. I've experienced genuine and personal assistance from everyone that I've been in contact with in the company. This goes all the way from the owner and his wife to their children and techs in the shop. After placing my 3rd order online last night I received a call first thing this morning from Justin wanting to make sure that I understood exactly how the nut slots were cut at the factory on the ZS 8 pre-slotted nuts. Justin made sure that I was 100 satisfied. The new nut was finished this morning and shipped same day. If I could give this review a 10-star review I would. Point being is that this is a top-notch company with great personal and corporate values. I give them and their products the highest review and praise possible. Most definitely recommended.
