The Especial Handcrafted Guitar was brought out of retirement in 2020 in honor of José Ramírez IV, who passed away 20 years earlier in 2000. Ramírez IV developed the original Especial model in the early 1990s to be a simpler construction than our Tradicional model and to provide a more intimate and sweet sound that is reminiscent of the guitars of the early 20th century. A half crossbar was added to achieve an ideal balance within the Especial.
The Especial is handmade in our workshop with excellent quality woods that have been naturally dried for at least 20 years. This drying process increases the stability and enriches the sound quality of the instrument. A solid red cedar or solid spruce top can be paired to a back and sides made from a variety of exquisite wood, including Indian rosewood, Madagascar rosewood, Cocobolo, and Brazilian rosewood, among others. The instrument's scale can be 650mm or 664mm long, and the neck can be thinned, if desired. The guitar body can be chambered with an Indian rosewood internal reed to produce a clearer sound and to help avoid wolf notes.
The price includes a handmade Manzano case.
